Jeff Fisher is not out as Tennessee Titans coach, but he's not safe yet, either.Fisher, who on Sunday finished his 16th season as the Titans' head coach, will remain in limbo for now, with Titans' owner Bud Adams issuing a statement Monday afternoon such a decision takes "time and thoughtful consideration."
Adams' statement said he met for several hours Monday with Senior Executive Vice President Steve Underwood and General Manager Mike Reinfeldt regarding the team's future.
"I will continue to review all aspects of what we do as a football team, including the coaching staff and other decisions that are in front of us," Adams' statement read. "There are several things that need to be considered in this evaluation process, including Jeff's history with our team, the labor situation and other challenges. I have been at this for a long time, and these decisions take time and thoughtful consideration. I will make the decisions that I feel are in the best interest of the team."
Adams said he understands "the time element involved and would expect to make these decisions in the near future."
Fisher, the NFL's longest-tenured coach with one organization, addressed the situation at a late-afternoon news conference to wrap-up the 2010 regular-season, one that ended with the Titans losing nine of their last 10 games following a 5-2 start.
"The sooner the better, but again, as complicated as these issues are, it makes no sense (to rush)," wrote John Glennon of the Tennessean reported Fisher saying of the decision-making timetable.
Fisher also said he expects to speak with Adams within the next few days. He also said there is a chance he could go to Houston to meet with Adams during that time.
