The last time the Penguins and Islanders met all hell broke loose late in the third period with a Brent Johnson vs. Rick DiPietro goalie fight that ended when Johnson delivered a one-punch knockout blow, resulting in facial fractures for the Islanders goalie. New York, getting another crack at Johnson on Friday, responded by chasing the veteran netminder with a six goal outburst in just a little more than 22 minutes of action. After two periods the Islanders were thoroughly destroying and embarrassing a decimated Penguins team that didn't seem to have any interest in playing by an 8-2 margin. The goal-scoring explosion was only part of the story, however. With the Islanders on top, 6-0, five minutes into the second period, Matt Martin skated alongside Penguins forward Max Talbot, dropped his stick, threw off his gloves and attempted to deliver a sucker punch to Talbot's face, sparking a line-brawl that resulted in six ejections and 99 combined penalty minutes.
Martin didn't appear to fully connect with his blow, but the intent is quite clear.
