The problems for the Iowa Hawkeyes football team continue to mount. Less than a week after Derrell Johnson-Koulianos was arrested for keeping a "drug house," the Hawkeyes have lost running back Jewel Hampton to transfer and sophomore running back Adam Robinson has been suspended from the team for the Insight Bowl against Missouri. "Jewel Hampton has decided to leave the team and plans to transfer to another school to complete his degree and finish his career. We wish him the best of success in the future," said coach Kirk Ferentz to local media Monday afternoon.
"While Adam has been cleared medically, he will not be participating in the upcoming Insight Bowl game as a result of failing to comply with team expectations and policies. Adam will have the option to rejoin the team when classes resume in January."
Robinson led the Hawkeyes with 941 yards and 10 touchdowns rushing this season. Hampton missed most of the season after tearing his ACL in late September.
Speculation on additional suspensions to Iowa players has been rampant in the past 24 hours, with many outlets predicting upwards of 11 players suspended from the team for the Insight Bowl.
Ferentz and athletic director Gary Barta will be conducting a press conference Tuesday morning, at which point some further answers could possibly surface.
